Generate an Accessibility Conformance Report from your scan data

A buyer has asked for a VPAT and you need one in days, not months. RedFlag exports a completed Accessibility Conformance Report in the VPAT format, criterion by criterion, with every rating traced back to findings on your actual pages rather than to someone's opinion of them.

What this report is not

This belongs at the top rather than in the small print, because it is the part vendors get wrong and buyers check.

  • It is not a certification. No ACR is. A completed report is a self-representation by the vendor, or an evaluation by a third party. There is no issuing body and no pass mark.
  • It does not guarantee compliance with any law or standard, and RedFlag does not offer conformance guarantees. OurTerms of Service say so plainly and this page says the same thing.
  • It does not replace a human audit. Automated rules reach a real but partial slice of WCAG. Several criteria can only be judged by a person operating the interface, and those are reported as needing review rather than quietly marked as passing.

What it does do is tell a buyer exactly what was tested, on which pages, by what method, and what was found. That is a stronger position than a column of unsupported "Supports" ratings, whichreviewers read all day and discount accordingly.

How is the report built?

From the scan data already in your dashboard. There is no separate questionnaire to fill in and no interview.

  1. Scan the product. The Chrome extension runs axe-core 4.11.2 and RedFlag's own rules locally in the page. A full-site crawl reads your sitemap.xml and covers up to 100 pages per run on Pro.
  2. Findings map to success criteria. Every rule in therules library declares the WCAG criterion it belongs to, so findings roll up to criteria without anyone deciding case by case.
  3. Ratings are derived from the evidence. Supports, Partially Supports, Does Not Support and Not Applicable follow from what the scan found across how many of the tested pages, not from a default.
  4. Manual checks are layered in. Keyboard order, focus visibility, screen reader behaviour and zoom are recorded through guided checks in the extension and carried into the same report.
  5. Export. The report states its own scope: the pages tested, the date, the engine version and the method. Re-run the scan and re-export whenever the product changes.

Which criteria can be evidenced automatically?

Fewer than half, and being specific about which ones is more useful than a coverage percentage.

A machine can tell you an image has no alt attribute. It cannot tell you whether alt="image1" describes anything. It can list the DOM order of your focusable elements; it cannot tell you whether that order makes sense for the task. Criteria in the second category are reported honestly, with the manual result where you have recorded one and a clear gap where you have not.

The upside is that the mechanically checkable criteria are also the highest-frequency failures, so automation carries most of the volume even though it reaches under half the criteria.

Which edition should you export?

The one your buyer named. If they did not name one, the WCAG edition answers most private-sector requests, and the others incorporate WCAG by reference.

RedFlag reports against WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA, which is the technical baseline every one of those editions points at. Selling into Australian government is the same picture from a different direction, covered inaccessibility requirements for Australian government websites.

What does it cost?

ACR export is part of Pro, at $15 USD per month. There is no separate report fee, no per-export charge and no sales call.

The free tier covers one domain with no card, which is enough to scan your product and see the findings the report would be built from. Export, unlimited domains, 100-page crawls and CSV export are the Pro additions.

RedFlag is a Chrome and Chromium extension plus a web dashboard. There is no Firefox or Safari build.

Questions

Is an ACR the same thing as a VPAT?

The VPAT is the blank template published by the Information Technology Industry Council. The completed document you hand a buyer is the Accessibility Conformance Report. In conversation people say VPAT for both, and RedFlag exports the completed report.

Does an ACR certify that my product is accessible?

No. An ACR is a self-representation by the vendor, or an evaluation by a third party. It is not a certification, not a legal guarantee and not a pass or fail test. It is a record of what was tested, what was found, and what the ratings are based on.

Can RedFlag fill in every success criterion automatically?

No, and any tool that says it can is describing something other than WCAG. RedFlag ships 122 rules across 47 success criteria. Of those rules, 96 run automatically and 26 are manual checks or guidance, because the criteria behind them need a person to judge. Criteria with no evidence are reported as such rather than filled in.

How often does the report need regenerating?

An ACR describes one version of a product at one date. Material interface changes invalidate it, and procurement teams routinely reject reports older than about twelve months. Rescanning and re-exporting takes minutes, which is the point of generating it from live data.
